Electrophysiological studies of dopaminergic
actions in the prefrontal cortex in vivo
Pyramidal neurons in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) exhibit an oscillation of near 1 Hz in their membrane potential. This can also be characterized as the neurons alternating between a negative (down) and depolarized (up, or active) state. We are studying the role of the mesolimbic system in controling transitions between states as well as the state-dependency of the responses to activation of these afferents.
